In this 1-day workshop Cathy Skipper & Florian Birkmayer, MD, will present their holistic approach to enhancing psychedelic therapy by using scent, particularly essential oils.
The workshop includes:
🐾A presentation on the scientific evidence for how scents and psychedelics synergize in the human brain, as well as the history of scent as a spiritual technology in several traditional cultures. 🐾How aromas work with different psychedelics.
🐾A presentation on a holistic model of the human psyche, based on Depth Psychology, including a definition of health and the path towards wholeness in the context of psychedelic therapy.

🐾Practical discussion of how to incorporate scent into psychedelic therapies, including protocols and how to discuss with clients.

Florian Birkamayer, MD
His work is based on the concept of the „Wounded Healer“ and supports clients and students in finding personal meaning, inner myths, and a deeper connection with themselves. He uses essential oils as living aromatic allies that can bypass the intellect, weaken the brain’s default mode network, and support work with the unconscious, the shadow, and the soul.
In response to the growing interest in psychedelic therapies, he is one of the pioneers in the use of essential oils as a supportive tool for deepening and integrating psychedelic therapeutic processes. According to him, essential oils synergistically enhance the effect of these approaches on multiple levels and can also independently help people live in harmony with the meaning of their soul.
He is a physician specializing in psychiatry and addiction medicine. After years of working in academic psychiatry and addiction treatment, he took a critical stance against the excessive emphasis on pharmacotherapy and focused on supporting recovery from psychiatric medication. He studied molecular biology at Princeton University and medicine at Columbia University.

She conducts workshops and consultations in New Mexico, internationally, and online, teaching clients to use their senses, depth psychology, guided „journeys,“ and other techniques to uncover layers of personal and ancestral trauma and heal them deeply.
She holds a B.Ed. Hons. in Speech and Drama from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London and a degree in herbalism from the Ecole Lyonnaise de Plantes Medicinales. She has completed four years of training in advanced kinesiology (Cellule de Vie) in France and is a certified coach (CTA Certified Coach).
She is the author of The Alchemy of Menopause Workbook, and you can find more information about her activities on her website dedicated to the Alchemy of Menopause project.

This workshop will take place also in Prague on the 20th of March.

Florian Birkamayer, MD
Ve své práci vychází z konceptu „Zraněného léčitele“ a podporuje klienty i studenty v hledání osobního smyslu, vnitřního mýtu a hlubšího propojení se sebou samými. Esenciální oleje využívá jako živé aromatické spojence, kteří dokážou obejít intelekt, oslabit výchozí síť mozku (Default Mode Network) a podpořit práci s nevědomím, stínem a duší.
V reakci na rostoucí zájem o psychedelické terapie patří k průkopníkům využití esenciálních olejů jako podpůrného nástroje pro prohloubení a integraci psychedelických terapeutických procesů. Esenciální oleje podle něj synergicky zesilují účinek těchto přístupů na více úrovních a mohou zároveň samostatně pomáhat lidem žít v souladu se smyslem jejich duše.
Je lékařem se specializací v psychiatrii a adiktologii. Po letech působení v akademické psychiatrii a léčbě závislostí se kriticky vymezil vůči nadměrnému důrazu na farmakoterapii a zaměřil se na podporu zotavení z psychiatrické medikace. Vystudoval molekulární biologii na Princeton University a medicínu na Columbia University.

Pořádá workshopy a konzultace v Novém Mexiku, mezinárodně i online, kde klienty učí využívat smysly, hlubinnou psychologii, vedené „cesty“ a další techniky k odkrývání vrstev osobních i rodových traumat a jejich hlubokému uzdravení.
Vystudovala B.Ed. Hons. v oboru řeč a drama na Royal Central School of Speech and Drama v Londýně a získala titul bylinářky na Ecole Lyonnaise de Plantes Medicinales. Absolvovala čtyřletý výcvik v pokročilé kineziologii (Cellule de Vie) ve Francii a je certifikovanou koučkou (CTA Certified Coach).
Je autorkou knihy „The Alchemy of Menopause Workbook“ a více informací o jejích aktivitách najdete na jejím webu věnovaném projektu Alchymie Menopauzy.

Natural aromas, such as essential oils, have a profound effect on the human psyche. Using essential oils in psychedelic-assisted therapy has been previously described (Birkmayer F, 2021) and offers a uniquely powerful way for enhancing its benefits. To overcome the general opinion that the mental and emotional benefits of essential oils, in particular in combination with psychedelic therapy, are vague and poorly defined, we will review the evidence for the multiple domains in which essential oils and psychedelic molecules can synergize, including in brain function, neuroanatomy, structural similarities and the entourage effect. Historical and traditional use
of aromas for sacred and transformative intentions will be touched on.
As time permits, aromatic insights from cases, practical approaches and indications for particular essential oils will be discussed.

Přírodní aroma, jako jsou éterické oleje, mají hluboký vliv na lidskou psychiku. Použití éterických olejů v psychedelické terapii bylo popsáno již dříve (Birkmayer F, 2021) a nabízí jedinečný a účinný způsob, jak zvýšit její přínosy.
Abychom překročili obecný názor, že mentální a emocionální přínosy éterických olejů, zejména v kombinaci s psychedelickou terapií, jsou nejasné a špatně definované, přezkoumáme evidenci, jak pro různé oblasti mohou éterické oleje a psychedelické molekuly synergicky působit, včetně funkce mozku, neuroanatomie, strukturálních podobností a efektu entourage (vzájemné propojenosti). Dotkneme se také historického a tradičního používání aromat pro posvátné a transformační účely.
Pokud to čas dovolí, budou diskutovány aromatické poznatky z případů, praktické přístupy a indikace pro konkrétní éterické oleje.

V únoru promítáme americký snímek John Lilly and the Earth Coincidence Control Office v Kině Dlabačov na Praze 6.

Po filmu bude následovat diskuze s neurovědcem Markem Nikoličem MSc Ma a psycholožkou, terapeutkou a koordinátorkou harm-reduction týmu PsyCare, Mgr. Danielou Koubkovou. Diskuzi bude opět moderovat náš drahý Michal Zeman, člen výkonného týmu České psychedelické společnosti a koordinátor projektu Prostor integrace.

John Cunningham Lilly, M.D. (1915–2001), měl mimořádnou kariéru založenou na jedinečně dobrodružném vědeckém výzkumu. Jeho experimentální projekty vznikaly na pozadí proměnlivých epoch: vojenské vědy studené války v 50. letech, psychedeliky prodchnuté kontrakultury 60. let a environmentální avantgardy 70. let.

Film John Lilly and the Earth Coincidence Control Office, vyprávěný Chloë Sevigny, sleduje příběh Lillyho snahy, kterou jeden historik popsal jako pokus „vzít vědomí do vlastních rukou“ — projektu, jenž se stále více opíral o psychedelika a postupně se vzdálil konvenční vědě.

Lilly vynalezl izolační tank a stal se klíčovým průkopníkem ve studiu komunikace delfínů. Založil vlastní laboratoře v Miami a na ostrově St. Thomas, kde spároval mladou výzkumnici s mladým samčím delfínem v částečně zaplaveném domě. Tento experiment pronikl do popkultury a Lilly se stal inspirací pro dva hollywoodské filmy — The Day of the Dolphin a Altered States.

Film zachycuje šíři Lillyho zájmů, vývoj jeho veřejné identity a jeho setkání s podobně výjimečnými současníky, včetně filmaře Alejandra Jodorowského.

Marek Nikolič MSc Ma

Po vystudování jednooborového titulu Master of Arts in Psychology na University of Aberdeen a dvou-letém tréninku v Person-Centered Psychotherapy, odjel na dva roky pozorovat šamanistické praktiky v Jižní a Střední Americe. Po návratu vystudoval MSc v Clinical Health Psychology, se zaměřením na úzkosti, chronické bolesti, a autismus. Vědecky se pak zabýval psychologií bezpečí, nebo-li psychologickými faktory prostoru, ve kterém se lidé lépe léčí, učí, a člení; a souvisejících somatických vzorců.

Toto zaměření ho přivedlo ke studiu statistiky jako způsobu objevování vzorců v medicínských datech, a až ke studiu Ph.D v Neurovědách na třetí lékařské fakultě univerzity Karlovy, a Psychedelického výzkumného centra v Národním ústavu duševního zdraví, kde se dnes zabývá hledáním prediktorů antidepresivní pomoci psychedelik v neurozobrazovacích datech.

Mgr. Daniela Koubková

Psycholožka, terapeutka, koordinátorka a školitelka dobrovolníků harm-reduction služby PsyCare. Působí na Psychedelické klinice Psyon, kde provází klienty zkušeností s ketaminem, a současně pracuje s lidmi se zkušeností s duševním onemocněním v Centru duševního zdraví ve Strakonicích.

Aktivně se angažuje v České psychedelické společnosti a jejím harm-reduction projektu PsyCare, který se zaměřuje na pomoc uživatelům psychedelických látek v rekreačním kontextu. V PsyCare působí od roku 2017 – několik let zde koordinuje dobrovolníky a vzdělává je (i veřejnost) v základech psychedelické harm-reduction a sitterování.

Zajímá se o výzkum terapeutického potenciálu psychedelických látek, změněných stavů vědomí a teorie vývoje vědomí, kterým se věnovala i ve své diplomové práci. Spolupracovala na vzniku Metodiky pro práci s uživateli psychedelik v rámci projektu Národního ústavu duševního zdraví.

Bc. et Bc. Michal Zeman

Na Psychedelické klinice Psyon koordinuje nástavbový výcvik v psychedeliky asistované psychoterapii (PAP). Studuje psychologii na FF UP a je frekventantem Výcviku integrace v psychoterapii (VIP). Je členem výkonného orgánu České psychedelické společnosti, kde se věnuje aktivitám především v externí a harm reduction sekci. Pravidelně se účastní hudebních festivalů jako dobrovolník služby PsyCare.

Je spoluautorem a současným koordinátorem projektu Prostor integrace, který sdružuje odborníky poskytující podporu při zpracování (tzv. integraci) psychedelických zkušeností.

Výzkumně se zaměřuje na fenomén spirituálního bypassu mezi uživateli psychedelik.

In February, we will screen the American film John Lilly and the Earth Coincidence Control Office at Kino Dlabačov in Prague 6.

After the film, a discussion will follow with neuroscientist Marek Nikolič MSc MA and psychologist, therapist, and coordinator of the PsyCare harm-reduction team, Mgr. Daniela Koubková. The discussion will be moderated again by our dear Michal Zeman, a member of the executive team of the Czech Psychedelic Society and coordinator of the Prostor integrace project.

John Cunningham Lilly M.D. (1915-2001) sustained an extraordinary career through uniquely adventurous scientific research. His experimental projects were staged against the shifting backdrops of 1950s Cold War military science, the drug-infused counterculture of the 60s, and the environmental vanguard of the 70s.

John Lilly and the Earth Coincidence Control Office, narrated by Chloë Sevigny, tells the story of Lilly’s quest, as one historian put it, to “get his hands on the steering wheel of consciousness” — a project that relied increasingly on psychedelics, leaving conventional science behind.

Lilly invented the isolation tank and was a primary explorer in the study of dolphin communication, founding his own lab in Miami and St. Thomas, pairing a young female researcher with a young male dolphin in a partially-flooded house. In addition to this experiment’s circulation in pop culture, Lilly served as the inspiration for two Hollywood movies, The Day of the Dolphin and Altered States.

The film reflects the scope of Lilly’s interests, the evolution of his public persona, and his interactions with equally exceptional contemporaries, including filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky.

Recent research has focused on how psychedelics and empathogens may assist in the treatment of PTSD and depression following trauma. However, there is almost no knowledge regarding how psychoactive substances may impact the processing of Traumatic Events (TE) in real time. The large-scale terror attack by Hamas on October 7th 2023 on the 4000 attendees of the Supernova music festival has provided a tragic opportunity to study these two phenomena in conjunction. The attack took place shortly after sunrise, when many attendees were under the influence of mind-altering substances, mostly MDMA, LSD, ketamine and, as well as cannabis. This is an unprecedented mass trauma event that many of its victims experienced while in altered states of consciousness. We are conducting a large scale, longitudinal study with these survivors regarding the processing of trauma under the influence of psychedelics in the peritraumatic and post traumatic periods. In this talk I will show results from this unique cohort including clinical (n = 1400), physiological (n = 300), cognitive (n = 900) and neural (fMRI) measures (n = 140) and how they relate to trauma and psychedelic use. The data and experiences of the courageous survivors of the festival provide novel insights into how trauma processing is impacted by psychoactive substances revealing unique interactions between cognitive, pharmacological and clinical factors.

The Nova Project
The tragic Hamas terrorist attack on October 7, 2023, at the Supernova music festival in Israel created a unique opportunity to study the interaction between trauma exposure and altered states of consciousness induced by psychoactive substances such as MDMA, LSD, ketamine, and psilocybin. Many survivors of the attack were under the influence of these substances, allowing for the first-ever longitudinal study of trauma processing in such a context. Our extensive research includes an unprecedented sample size of over 1,200 survivors, providing exceptional statistical power and reliability. Preliminary findings indicate a remarkable protective effect of MDMA during traumatic exposure, with MDMA users exhibiting significantly better clinical outcomes compared to those who consumed other substances or none at all. These insights are not only scientifically groundbreaking but have also generated considerable public and media interest, receiving extensive international coverage in prominent outlets such as The New York Times , Frankfurter Allgemeine and BBC.

Prof. Roy Salomon
Professor Roy Salomon is a Full Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Haifa and a Stiftung Charité visiting professor at the Charité psychiatric department in Berlin. His research primarily explores perceptual consciousness and bodily-self-consciousness, utilizing advanced techniques such as virtual reality, computational models, and neuroimaging. He earned his Ph.D. in Cognitive Neuroscience from Tel Aviv University and the Weizmann Institute of Science, and completed postdoctoral training at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) focusing on the neuroscience of consciousness and the self.

In 2016, he founded the Lab of Self & Consciousness, which investigates the construct of the “Self” and its relation to consciousness in both healthy and clinical populations. His research is known for its innovative approach to empirically studying fundamental questions such as „What is the self?“ and „How do we know what is real?“ Prof. Salomon has made significant contributions to understanding non-typical states of consciousness, including those experienced in psychosis and under psychedelics.

Prof. Salomon is a co-founder and board member of SafeHeart, a non-profit NGO dedicated to assisting trauma survivors, particularly those affected by the large-scale terror attack during the Supernova music festival in October 2023. His work in this area is pioneering in understanding trauma processing under altered states of consciousness, offering new insights and potential therapeutic approaches for trauma and related mental health conditions. Recognized for his contributions, Prof. Salomon has been invited to address the United Nations on mental health innovations in trauma care.

Všem, kdo provádějí psychedeliky asistovanou terapií, tento interaktivní seminář nabízí archetypální a v duši ukotvený rámec pro porozumění psychedelickým zážitkům z pohledu hlubinné psychologie a mytopoetické integrace. S důrazem na význam symboliky, příběhu, integrace a myticko-kulturního vnímání psychedelické práce budeme zkoumat, jak mohou být psychedeliky asistovaná terapie a vnitřní práce na uzdravení nápomocné při dosahování trvalé transformace, když jsou zakořeněny v jungovské psychologii a moudrosti starých mýtů. Účastníci získají hlubší vhled, nástroje a také jazyk, které jim pomohou lépe podporovat klienty při orientaci ve změněných stavech vědomí a při jejich integraci.

Účastníci se naučí:
1. Identifikovat klíčová archetypální a iniciační témata, která se nejčastěji objevují v psychedelických zážitcích, a porozumět jejich významu v hlubinně-psychologickém rámci.
2. Aplikovat mytopoetické perspektivy a podpořit tak klienty při integraci rozšířených stavů vědomí s větší psychologickou hloubkou a kulturním kontextem.
3. Vyhodnotit, jakou roli hraje v psychedelickém léčení práce se stínem a kolektivním nevědomím, a integrovat tyto poznatky do klinických dovedností.

Workshop Abstract:
This interactive workshop offers psychedelic clinicians and guides an archetypal and soul-centered framework for understanding psychedelic experiences through the lens of depth psychology and mythopoetic integration. Emphasizing the importance of symbolism, story, integration, and a mytho-cultural understanding of psychedelic work, we will explore how psychedelic assisted therapies and healing work can facilitate lasting transformation when rooted in Jungian psychology and mythic wisdom. Participants will leave with language, insights, and tools to better support clients navigating and integrating altered states of consciousness.

Learning Outcomes:
* Identify key archetypal and initiatory themes that commonly arise in psychedelic experiences, and understand their relevance within a depth psychological framework.
* Apply mythopoetic perspectives to support clients in integrating non-ordinary states of consciousness with greater psychological depth and cultural context.
* Evaluate the role of shadow work and the collective unconscious in psychedelic healing, and integrate these insights into a clinical skillset.

Deset let spolupracovala s Bonny jako koordinátorka jejího GIM školení a vydala její sebrané spisy, Music and Consciousness (Barcelona Publications). Mezi vlastní publikace Dr. Summer patří Music: The New Age Elixir, kritika léčby hudbou, stejně jako kapitoly v knihách a články, které popisují její přístup k modelu Continuum Model of GIM.
Její přínos pro profesi muzikoterapie byl oceněn cenami za výzkum a služby, včetně ceny American Music Therapy Association Presidential Award. Lisa je v současné době aktivní, pořádá školení, workshopy a prezentace po celém světě a online prostřednictvím svého Institutu pro hudbu a vědomí. Bio:
The director of music therapy at Anna Maria College for 28 years, Board-Certified Music Therapist/Professor Emeritus Lisa Summer is the leading voice and trainer for Helen Bonny’s transpersonal method, Guided Imagery and Music (GIM). She worked alongside Bonny as coordinator of her GIM training for a decade, and published Bonny’s collected writings, Music and Consciousness (Barcelona Publications). Dr. Summer’s own writing includes Music: The New Age Elixir, a critique of music healing, as well as book chapters and articles that chronicle her approach to the Continuum Model of GIM. Her service to the music therapy profession has been recognized by awards for research and service, including the American Music Therapy Association Presidential Award. Lisa is currently active, giving trainings, workshops, and presentations around the world and online through her Institute for Music and Consciousness. Since 2021 she has been a co-therapist and music programmer for psychedelic research trials in Boston. Lisa is excited to be exploring ways to apply music therapy theory and skills create new protocols for the use of music in preparation, dosing, integration; and new approaches for designing music programs.

Ayahuasca, the Amazonian “soul vine,” has been used in sacred contexts for thousands of years. What few realize is that its microdosing practices existed ancestrally, even without DMT (the illegal component), as a way for healing and restoration in daily life. Today, this ancient knowledge is being systematically studied for the first time. Álvaro Zárate, founder of Microhuasca, leads one of the world’s most comprehensive programs on microdosing with ayahuasca and other sacred medicines, described by Dr. James Fadiman as “the most complete” he has ever seen.

With over 700 documented cases in more than 20 countries, his team combines the wisdom of healers with the expertise of scientists, psychologists, engineers, and health professionals. Their findings show that microdosing is not just a modern trend, but a profound process of transformation, which helped them redefine psychedelic integration as we know it and brings up insights that can be applied for both micro and macrodosing.

Álvaro Zárate is a Peruvian leader in plant medicine innovation. He co-founded Microhuasca, a pioneering therapeutic program and certification school for microdosing Ayahuasca and other sacred medicines. He also co-founded the Federación Iberoamericana de Psicodélicos y Enteógenos (FIPE), which gathers key organizations in the Latin American psychedelic ecosystem, and the venture-builder Cosmovision, incubating psychedelic projects across the Spanish-speaking world. Previously, Álvaro played a key role in Peru’s startup ecosystem, advising governments and incubators on innovation, and teaching entrepreneurship, including as academic director and postgraduate professor in private universities in the region.
